The City of Pomona is not giving up: back in court for the third time, following a successful appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, they are seeking compensation from SQM North America Corporation for the contamination of the city’s water supply with a toxic chemical called perchlorate.
The question still remains whether a jury will hold polluters accountable, or leave the tens of millions of dollars for cleanup in the hands of ratepayers. This is an issue that affects all Californians and the many water providers that are dealing with toxic water contaminants (perchlorate and others) in their systems.
The trial started this week and takes place in the Federal District Court in the Roybal Federal Building on the 8th floor (Courtroom 850, 8:30-11:30 am and 1:00-4:00 pm). It is expected that a verdict will be reached by the end of next week.
